The government has proposed rules for the management of old electric vehicle (EV) batteries, instructing manufacturers and dealers to track and collect used batteries while installing new ones.
According to the notification published by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Tuesday, "guarantee that used batteries are collected back as per the 'Schedule' against new batteries sold, excepting those sold to original equipment manufacturer and bulk consumer(s)."
With the Battery Waste Management Rules 2020, the Ministry is also soliciting public input on the proposed rules for the next 60 days, after which the government will consider putting the notification into effect.
